UVRF Required Swim Test: New for 2009

Starting in 2009, a swim test will be required for ALL UVRF members. Everyone participating in UVRF rowing programs or using UVRF facilities and equipment must pass this test. The swim test, which is good for five years, is a new club requirement that is consistent with USRowing safety recommendations. All tests will be administered by UVRF or its chosen designee, and will consist of the following: wearing rowing clothes, each person has to tread water for 10 minutes, then swim 50 yards, then put on a life jacket that is thrown into the water, and then swim to a ladder and climb out of the pool.

When:

  • April 23, 2009 7:00-9:00 PM
  • April 28, 2009 7:00-9:00 PM
  • May 3, 2009 4:00-6:00 PM
  • May 17, 2009 4:00 - 5:00 PM

  • June 21, 2009 4:00 - 5:00 PM

Where:

Please sign up for a swim test when you register for membership. The test will last no more than 20 minutes and will be done in groups of 10. Please plan to show up at the pool 10 minutes before your swim test time. There are six 20-minute time slots available on each of the 3 days listed above, and you will select one as part of your registration. Anyone planning to participate in the Spring Rowing program must pass a swim test on one of the above dates. Additional swim test times will be available at the start of the Summer sessions in June.
