Everyone participating in UVRF rowing programs or using UVRF facilities and equipment must pass this test. The swim test, which is good for five years, is a club requirement that is consistent with USRowing safety recommendations. All tests will be administered by UVRF or its chosen designee, and will consist of the following: wearing rowing clothes, each person has to tread water for 10 minutes, then swim 50 yards, then put on a life jacket that is thrown into the water, and then swim to a ladder and climb out of the pool. A swim test for UVRF members is currently scheduled for Monday June 27th from 7-8:00 am at the Karl Michael pool at Dartmouth's Alumni Gym. The swim test will follow the first session of the summer Novice Sweep Program, which will be held in the rowing tanks at the gym that morning. There is no cost to take the swim test at this time. If you cannot take the group swim test on June 27, you can go to the pool between the hours of 10AM and 2PM, Monday through Friday. You will have to purchase a day pass at the front desk, then go to the pool and have the life guard administer the test. Day passes cost $10 and include use of all gym facilities. You will be wearing rowing clothes to take the test, so make sure you bring a towel and a fresh set of clothes for afterward. |
